5 Ranges Phoenix Stables is a new equine therapy facility in southeastern Utah dedicated to providing free services to children and adults seeking ways to prevent and overcome addiction and address mental, emotional, and physical challenges. Drawing on years of equine experience, we believe deeply in the transformative power of horse-assisted therapy.
In cooperation with the Blanding USU Extension office and Dr. Karl Hoopes, the founder of RideUtah!, 5 Ranges Phoenix Stables is offering trail rides for military veterans and guests/family members at no charge. Located in the heart of southeastern Utah, our facility serves individuals and groups from nearby communities, including Navajo and Ute tribal members. Our inaugural ride took place in June and in partnership with USU and RideUtah! we are scheduling regular rides on a weekly or twice-monthly basis that will accommodate up to 10 riders at a time.
To make these rides possible in remote San Juan, we provides the horses, guides, meeting and picnic facilities and trails on private land for these experiences at no charge to the veterans or the USU Extension program. We receive no monetary support from RideUtah!.
Set in rural southeastern Utah we offer unique services that support veterans and other individuals for whom clinical approaches are unavailable, unaffordable or have proven ineffective. As a partner of RideUtah!, we are "harnessing Utah’s natural beauty and resources into a successful program. Participants report that the rides are relaxing, enjoyable, increase resilience, and are a good opportunity to connect with others who share similar experiences."

Yes, Very!
Equine therapy works because horses mirror human emotions, demanding authentic presence and trust. Their rhythmic gait strengthens core muscles and balance, while non-judgmental interactions reduce anxiety, build confidence, and improve emotional regulation. This multisensory, nature-based bond fosters healing across physical, psychological, and social domains.
No.
5 Ranges Phoenix Stables offers equine therapy services at no charge to children and adults regardless of income.
If you are an adult or child with physical, emotional or mental needs and would like to participate in therapeutic equine experiences, simply contact us. We will assess your needs, and see how best to meet them!
Horses are large animals and accidents can happen, as with any outdoor activity. However, our horses are highly trained, tame, gentle and they enjoy and seek out human interactions. Although they are all different in size and disposition, they are uniformly easy to handle and safe.
